A buyer's guide · 2026
Best executive team development companies, compared.
The short answer
There's no single "best" — these firms solve different problems. For individual leadership development there's CCL and university exec-ed; for assessment at enterprise scale, Korn Ferry; for a CEO peer network, Vistage; for team health, the Table Group; and for an executive team that's capable but not executing together, team-execution specialists like Be Legendary. Choose by whether you're developing individual leaders or fixing how the team operates as a unit.
The companies, side by side
Grouped by the kind of outcome they serve — not ranked, because they aren't substitutes for each other.
| Company | Approach | Best known for | Best when |
|---|---|---|---|
| Be Legendary (that's us) | Team execution & alignment | The Flag Model and a live leadership simulation (LFS) that reads how a team actually decides and executes, then rebuilds the behavior and measures it with a FlagScore. | The team is capable but not executing — misaligned priorities, decisions that stall, a standard that slips. |
| Center for Creative Leadership (CCL) | Research-based development | One of the longest-running leadership-development institutions — open-enrollment and custom programs grounded in published research. | You want curriculum-driven individual leadership development at scale, backed by research. |
| Korn Ferry | Consulting + assessment at scale | A global organizational-consulting firm pairing leadership development with assessment, succession and talent data. | A large enterprise needs development tied to assessment and succession across many leaders. |
| Vistage | CEO peer advisory | Facilitated peer-advisory groups where CEOs and executives work through their real decisions with a chair and a room of peers. | An individual leader wants an ongoing peer sounding board more than a team intervention. |
| The Table Group | Team health | Patrick Lencioni’s firm — the Five Dysfunctions model and organizational-health work focused on trust, conflict and cohesion. | You’re diagnosing why a team isn’t cohering and want the health model behind it. |
| Stewart Leadership | Leadership & team consulting | Leadership and team-development consulting and coaching across the leader and team levels. | You want blended individual-and-team development through a consulting relationship. |
| University executive education (Stanford GSB, Harvard, etc.) | Academic programs | Multi-day executive-education programs taught by business-school faculty. | An individual leader wants a credentialed academic program and a cohort network. |

How to choose — start from the outcome
The most common mistake is buying leadership development when the problem is team execution. They're different. Developing individual leaders — the skills, the mindset, the credential — is what CCL, university exec-ed and most coaching firms do well. But a team can be full of well-developed individuals and still fail to execute together, because the thing that's broken is how the group decides, aligns and holds a standard. No amount of individual development fixes a team-level behavior problem.
If your team is capable but not executing, insist on three things from whoever you hire: a real diagnosis of how your team actually behaves — ideally a leadership simulation, not a survey; a specific mechanism to rebuild the broken behavior; and a measure that shows whether it changed. That's the gap Be Legendary was built for — the Flag Model names where a team breaks, Team LFS measures it, and the work rebuilds it and re-measures.
Common questions
What are the best executive team development companies?
There's no single best — they solve different problems. CCL and university exec-ed for curriculum-driven individual development; Korn Ferry for assessment and succession at scale; Vistage for a CEO peer network; the Table Group for team health; and team-execution specialists like Be Legendary for a team that's capable but not executing together. Choose by whether you're developing individual leaders or fixing how the team operates as a unit.
Leadership development vs. executive team development — what's the difference?
Leadership development builds individual leaders, one at a time. Team development works on the group as a unit — how it chooses priorities, owns decisions, surfaces disagreement and holds a standard. A team of well-developed individuals can still fail to execute together, which is why team development is a distinct — and often the missing — discipline.
How do I choose one?
Start from the outcome. Individual growth → a curriculum or coaching provider. A team that can't execute together → a team-execution specialist, and insist on a real behavioral diagnosis (not a survey), a specific mechanism to rebuild what's broken, and a measure that proves it changed.
How much does it cost?
Open-enrollment programs and peer memberships run from a few thousand per leader per year; custom team engagements and multi-day programs run from the low tens of thousands into six figures by scope. The number that matters is the cost of the problem — a misaligned team usually wastes more than any engagement costs. You can estimate that here.

By the time US Holdings became Eagle Manufacturing Group and I moved from COO to CEO, we were no longer seven companies protecting our own territory — we were one company working toward the same outcome.”
